ce-le-brate good times, come on!

In just five days I will be 39 years old. The mocking may commence…now. Okay, that was great, anyway…

The first birthday I really remember was when I turned eight. My mom made cupcakes in ice cream cones, way back before Pinterest. Way back before it was cool, she was.

I remember a surprise party when I was 13 and a very decorated car when I celebrated number 16 and then there was my ahem, 21st…enter mom once again.Ā I remember the angel food cake and the ice cream and the flowers sent special delivery by my dad every year since I first left for college.

I’m certain you have some similar memories. I am also certain that there were children in my classes when I was teaching whose parents could afford none of those memory making things. Perhaps you know some of those children as well. Look around. I bet you do. I was thinking about them today…a lot actually, and so I’m asking you to help me celebrate by helping them celebrate.

39th Birthday Celebration!

Here’s the deal…

On Monday, September 1st I will run/walk/crawl one set of stairs at our local college football stadium (click here) for every party pack you pledge to donate to your local food bank.

Of course a party is not complete without…

  • cake (a box mix)
  • icing
  • plates
  • party hats
  • candles

These five items must be in each kit…but you may include any additional party supplies you deem absolutely necessary for a party’s success.

Each party pack gets you 120 steps and will be honored up to 39 sets…or until I pass out. šŸ™‚ For those of you counting, that’s 4,680 steps!

Friends, family, and strangers alike, I hope you’ll do this with me! Just comment below with the number of party packs you would like to donate, then check back on Monday afternoon sometime to see the results.

Thank you! Now I must go sleep, or carbo load, no sleep, no, carbo load…

I want you to see life the way I see it. Often contradictory, seldom predictable, many times lovely, occasionally tragic, but every day filled with God's grace.

    • I might be a little insane. It’s a good kind of insanity though, don’t you think? No need to take the pedometer off. I would imagine that day will be a really low step day overall…say, 4,685… 5 steps should get me to the car right? 4! Yea! Thank you!

  2. I think I will just come up with musical features for the day including

The Proclaimers – “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”
    EDWIN STARR – “25 MILES”
    Vanessa Carlton – “A Thousand Miles ”
The Who – “I Can See For Miles”
    Jackson Browne “Running on Empty”
Bob Seger – “Against the Wind”

    I do take requests:)

  3. THIS! THIS IS AWESOME! Oh REVSETHMEYER that is just what I needed! I do think he should sing them to you! I would travel 3 hours to photograph this entire or possibly video this fabulous bout of Meyer fun! šŸ™‚ Your running, him singing, and me running a camera with ding dong in hand. By the way Dixie is donating… it’s on our church page but not sure how many! šŸ™‚

  4. Happy Birthday, friend!!! You can put me down for 10…..5 for your birthday and 5 for mine;) I hope you have a fabulous birthday.

  5. This is awesome! Ok, so I will donate 4! Three for three of my children (my son’s birthday on November 28; my second child in heaven who was “born” last Sept 5; and my third’s due date on November 27)…and the last one for your birthday! Happy Birthday!

  6. I will donate 4 party kits! Gonna get you those steps one way or another!! šŸ™‚ You go girl!!

  7. What a fun idea! My birthday was on Thursday, so it’s particularly timely. I’ll be considering this as I’m doing my shopping today!

  8. I just dropped off our “kits” to the church food donation box. There were a total including mine of 13. WOW~!
